檸檬─台灣特有酸度,猶如「初戀的滋味」

檸檬為柑橘類水果,日治時期1920年前後引進台灣種植,風味酸香甘美、盛產於夏季。原產於熱帶森林的檸檬,移居台灣後,最適合的種植地點是最南端的屏東,目前屏東檸檬的產量占全台超過8成。

東九如鄉有強烈的日照,以及來自大武山的清澈水質,加上台灣農業優異的農作改良技術,「九如檸檬」名聲響亮,甚至贏得「檸檬故鄉」的稱號。九如種植的檸檬品種以無籽、四季、香水、黃金檸檬、香檬(扁實檸檬)為主,主要作為果汁原料。

和世界其他產地的檸檬相比,台灣產檸檬有種濃而不膩的清香,酸度更常常被形容成「初戀的滋味」,青澀、酸甜,卻令人難以忘懷。 

▋國境之南的綠寶石,全球只有台灣、沖繩有 

台灣檸檬眾多品種中,最值得被提出來的是原生種「香檬」(客語「山桔仔」、閩南語稱「酸桔子」),全世界只有台灣和日本沖繩有香檬這種作物。 

在日本,香檬已經是最火紅的健康食品,1cc的果汁就要價一元台幣,一杯250cc的香檬汁就要250元,被視為「新綠金」。台灣的香檬目前大多還是只有在產地(屏東)或農夫市集才看得到,近幾年陸續以「國境之南的綠寶石」行銷。 

台灣香檬所含的植物類黃酮成分高出日本品種四倍之多,價值更高,有製成酵素、益生菌等健康保健產品的開發潛力,使台灣香檬成為現今生技業界中的新星。
